Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs)

The Health Savings Account is the new name for Medical Savings Accounts in the U.S. Health Savings Accounts are tax advantaged savings plans that cover current and future medical expenses. HSAs allow money to be put into a tax-deferred plan before tax is paid on it, and it can be withdrawn tax-free for qualified medical expenses.

Plexis WEBWorks provides the functionality to support both Health Savings Accounts and Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts.

Section 125 Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

Flexible Spending Accounts are commonly referred to as "Cafeteria" Plans because of the "menu" of benefit options available through them. These accounts are sometimes referred to as "Section 125" Plans, which is in reference to the provision under the Internal Revenue Code permitting the tax advantages that the Flexible Spending Plan provides.

WEBWorks supports Section 125 FSAs and the use of SmartCards that members use for co-pays, pharmacy purchases, etc. Flex Account cards also require a clearinghouse for card data.
